With over 70 percent of Canberra's greenhouse gas emissions generated by stationary sources, including office buildings, the ACT's emissions profile is distinctly different from the national emissions profile of around 50 percent.

Targeting electricity consumption is a key step to achieving significant greenhouse gas reductions in the ACT and achieving the ACT Government’s long term goal of zero net emissions. It is one of the main ways in which the Government is working towards this visionary target.
