How do I undertake a NABERS Energy rating?

To obtain an accredited NABERS Energy performance rating for your tenancy, you will need to engage a NABERS Accredited Assessor who is trained by and contracted to the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage.

Assessors are skilled in the management and operation of office buildings. All Assessors must meet strict selection criteria, attend a training session and pass an exam to gain accreditation.

Once your office has been assessed you will receive a certificate and permission to use the NABERS Energy logo (in accordance with the terms and conditions) to promote the greenhouse performance of your organisation.

What information is required to undertake a rating?

The Accredited Assessor will need:

  • the net lettable area for your tenancy (based on the Property Council of Australia publication, Method of Measurement for Lettable Area, March 1997) - the net lettable area may be noted in leasing documents, survey drawings or tenancy floor plans and your building manager or landlord should also be able to provide this information
  • all bills for each energy source used by the tenancy for the preceding 12 months
  • details of any vacancies in the tenancy for the preceding 12 months
  • permission to visit your office to determine the number of active computers
  • permission to conduct staff surveys to determine the hours of occupancy
